Thank you Asia!

on 2017-02-02 in Malaysia
We were greeted by our friendly hotel employees in Malaysia once again. We had made plans to meet up with Leslie and two friends the next day to take a short tour out of the city and towards a nice restaurant for lunch. Around noon we parted ways and we started riding along the east coast towards Pekang. From Pekang we rode West towards Kuala Lumpur along a couple of nice overgrown small roads. Due to flooding in some areas there was near to no traffic on the roads.

Fabi and Denis had seen enough and decided to head for Kuala Lumpur, while Basti planned to go further north to explore some more. Basti road up to the Kenyir Lake the largest man-made lake in South East Asia. It is part of the Tanjung Mentong Tasik Kenyir Nature reserve. He decided to spend the night on one of the many houseboats on the lake. After a short private tour across the marvelous lake the next day he headed towards the west. Even though the road had been closed it was luckily still possible to pass the parts of the road that were washed out by the rain. The plan for the day was to go to the Cameron Highlands. A 1500 meter high plateau that is used by the English for growing tea since the 1930's. Today they also grow a lot of vegetables in this rather mild climate. Basti arrived at the hotel just when the rain set in. The next morning Basti visited the All Souls' and the Convent Church before he headed towards Kuala Lumpur. The village Tanah Rata was overall very British.

The last 100 kilometers before Kuala Lumpur were amazing winding roads through the jungle. Parts of the roads were still wet which allowed for more attention to the surrounding beauty. Basti took one more turn up to the so called Frasier Hill or "Little England". Basti reached the village just when it started to drizzle. Surrounded by picturesque British villas, typical English lawn and a large golf course, Basti felt amused by the fact that the British colonialists seemed to have found a place matching the British weather. It had about 20 degrees and it was obvious that it often rains in this place. Back on the road Basti made his way towards Kuala Lumpur through countless curves and soon meet up with Fabi and Denis who had been relaxing in the wonderful Homie KL hostel for the past couple of days.

The next days were spent preparing ourselves and the bikes for the flight to the United States. BMW Motorcycle sponsored three metal crates for our bikes and we arranged the transport to the cargo area at the airport. We cleaned the bikes an entire day so that we would not get into trouble because of remaining dirt when importing them to the US. This was the cleanest they have been since we left 10 months ago.

Three days before departure we rode the last miles on the Asian continent. We put the bikes in the crates. The Hondas were a bit bigger then the GS when strapped down but in the end they luckily turned a blind eye and accepted all our bikes.

We have been riding for over half a year through major parts of Asia! We have experienced so much and seen many diverse countries and cultures. We have meet exceptional friendly and hospitable people along the way. Asia has broadened our mind's tremendously. Not only because of never seen before places but also because of the cultures and people we have met along the way. A big thank you to all that were part of these unforgettable experiences!
